No Cost Virtual Educational Sessions for Practitioners on Obesity Management

The Ontario Bariatric Network is offering no cost virtual accredited educational sessions at no cost to primary care clinicians this fall. Funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health, join this educational series with other primary care providers and allied health professionals (e.g., dietitians, mental health workers) working in primary care to update your knowledge on the Assessment, Treatment Options and Management of patients living with obesity. Sessions are offered virtually at no cost to providers through Zoom and facilitated by a multi-disciplinary team of specialists from one of Ontario’s Bariatric Centre of Excellence. A variety of CME accredited series are starting this fall.

Series: Obesity Management Foundations. This 12-week series is designed to provide practitioners with the opportunity to learn about the latest treatment options available for patients living with obesity as well as an overview of the management of patients who have received treatment from one of Ontario's Bariatric Centres of Excellence. The fall series will be facilitated by staff from either the Guelph General Hosptial, London Health Sciences Centre and St Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton Bariatric Centres of Excellence.

Session topics include:

  • Introduction to Obesity in Ontario
  • Etiology of Obesity
  • Non-Surgical Treatment of Obesity
  • Prescribing and Managing Anti-Obesity Drugs
  • Understanding Mental Health Impacts on Obesity Care
  • Surgical Management of Obesity and Postoperative Care of Bariatric Surgical Patients
  • Assessment and Management of Nutritional Deficiencies Following Bariatric Surgery
  • Pregnancy Considerations following Bariatric Surgery

Advanced: Join other primary care practitioners and a multi-disciplinary team of specialists from The Ottawa Hospital Bariatric Centre of Excellence for a virtual 6-week CME accredited learning series. You will have an opportunity to have in depth discussions on topics such as Duodenal Switch and Revisional Surgery, management of pain for post-bariatric surgical patients, managing iron deficiency and hypoglycemia in the bariatric surgical patient.

There is no requirement to attend every session.
